OpenAI unveiled two major workplace products at DevDay 2026 in San Francisco on Sept. 29: Dots, a persistent AI agent that keeps working between conversations, and Space, a shared team environment inside ChatGPT. The announcements were part of more than 20 products OpenAI released at the event.
Each Dot runs on GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's most recent aligned model, and has its own cloud computer and browser. Users can assign tasks such as scheduling meetings, booking travel, debugging code, and writing software. The agent picks up work around the clock without waiting to be prompted.
CEO Sam Altman framed Dots as a delegation tool rather than a question-answering assistant. "You can delegate ambitious pieces of work the way you would to a high agency engineer or a chief of staff that you work with," Altman said at the event. He added that protections are built in and that users can set limits on app and computer access.
OpenAI says its own engineers are already using Dots internally to close dozens of bugs per day. Employees described the agents as "extensions of us" during the DevDay livestream.
ChatGPT Space replaces the existing Library feature for Pro, Business, and Enterprise customers. It serves as a home for Pages, files, presentations, and spreadsheets. Teams can tag a Dot or ChatGPT directly inside shared documents, and colleagues can continue building on work already completed by other agents or team members.
A Meetings plugin, currently in beta for Pro and Business users, records meeting audio and stores notes inside Space. ChatGPT then cross-references those notes with existing project materials to summarize decisions and update plans automatically.
The platform now reaches 1.2 billion weekly users. OpenAI is opening ChatGPT as a shared surface where developers can ship native experiences directly to that audience. A new ChatGPT Pro 500 plan at $500 per month was also announced, making it the company's most expensive individual consumer plan. GPT-6.1 Sol, described as offering near-Astra intelligence at one-fifth the token cost of Astra, was released alongside the workplace tools.
Privacy boundaries are built into the architecture. Sharing a Page inside Space does not expose a user's private conversations or personal memory to coworkers. However, if ChatGPT pulls from a user's memory and writes that content onto a shared Page, it becomes visible to collaborators. OpenAI advises administrators and employees to review what crosses from private AI context into shared work.
For Business, Enterprise, and Edu customers, workspace content is not used to train OpenAI models by default. Personal-plan users can opt in or out. OpenAI acknowledges that Dots can make mistakes and recommends reviewing consequential outputs before acting on them.
Dots are not available in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. The geographic restriction aligns with those regions' stricter data privacy rules, given that Dots collect and retain user preferences, past conversations, and decision history over time.
