Privacy Policy | The SaaS Sentinel

The SaaS Sentinel is a news website and email newsletter published by Fwd Newsletters. This policy explains what information we collect when you read the site or subscribe to the newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.

What we collect

Your email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter. That is the only personal information the newsletter asks for.
Anything you choose to send us through the contact form, such as your name, your email address and your message.
Technical information that is collected automatically when you visit the site: your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, the site you came from and the time of your visit. This is standard web server and content delivery network logging.
Newsletter engagement, such as whether an email was opened or a link in it was clicked, which our email platform records for each subscriber.

We do not ask for payment details, passwords or accounts, and the site has no user registration.

How we use it

To send you the newsletter you asked for, and to stop sending it when you unsubscribe.
To reply to messages you send us, including tips and correction requests.
To understand which stories and topics readers find useful, using aggregated statistics.
To keep the site and newsletter secure, prevent abuse and diagnose problems.
To comply with the law where we are required to.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers for their own use.

We use a small number of service providers to run the site and the newsletter. They process data only on our instructions:

Cloudflare, which hosts the website and its content system and provides security, caching and traffic analytics.
Breaker, the platform that stores our subscriber list and sends the newsletter.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or transfer of the publication, in which case this policy continues to apply.

Cookies and tracking

The website works without accounts and sets no advertising cookies. Cloudflare may set a small number of cookies that are needed for security and performance. Newsletter emails include standard open and click tracking so we can see which stories readers care about.

Your choices and rights

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. You can also write to us and we will remove you.
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the rights set out in the GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your data protection authority. Our legal basis for sending the newsletter is your consent, and for the technical data described above it is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
If you are a California resident, you have the rights set out in the CCPA, including the right to know, delete and correct your personal information and the right to opt out of sales. We do not sell personal information.

Data retention

We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your address is kept only in a suppression list so that we do not email you again. Messages sent to us are kept for as long as needed to deal with them. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security and performance monitoring.

Children

The site and newsletter are intended for adults working in and around the software industry. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact us and we will remove the address.

Security

Personal information is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with providers that maintain their own security programs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed, and material changes will be noted in the newsletter.
