Quick Facts

  • Salesforce delivers 60+ new MCP tools and 30+ coding skills for AI agents to access entire platform
  • AgentExchange marketplace launches with 13,000+ listings and $50M Builders Fund
  • Platform transformation aims to reduce development cycle times by up to 40%

Salesforce unveiled its most ambitious architectural transformation in 27 years Wednesday, launching Headless 360 at its TDX developer conference in San Francisco. The initiative exposes every capability across the company’s platform as APIs, MCP tools, or CLI commands so AI agents can operate the entire system without browsers.

The platform transformation rests on three pillars designed to redefine enterprise software for the AI agent era. Salesforce delivers more than 60 new Model Context Protocol tools and 30-plus preconfigured coding skills that give external coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Windsurf complete access to customer Salesforce orgs, including data, workflows, and business logic.

“We want to expand the tent to bring in people that historically have not been part of the Salesforce ecosystem,” said Madhav Thattai, EVP and GM of Salesforce AI. “Headless is a fundamental unlock that allows people to use our systems more effectively.”

The company organized its platform around four layers: Data 360 as the system of context, Customer 360 apps as the system of work, Agentforce as the system of agency, and Slack as the system of engagement. Headless 360 opens every layer through programmable endpoints.

Salesforce launched the AgentExchange marketplace with 13,000+ listings and a $50M Builders Fund. Developer Edition users receive 110 requests per month with Claude Sonnet 4.5 and 1.5 million tokens monthly. The company claims DevOps Center MCP integration reduces cycle times by up to 40%.

Engine CEO Elia Wallen reported deploying production-ready AI agents in 12 days, driving millions in savings while increasing technical velocity. “This unified platform proves that we can scale our most complex service needs without adding operational complexity,” Wallen said.

Grupo Globo’s Adones Guerra praised the platform’s efficiency gains. “It’s been especially valuable for speeding up day-to-day tasks like metadata updates and quick tweaks, reducing manual work and boosting efficiency,” Guerra said.

Analysts view Headless 360 as Salesforce positioning itself as the central layer for agent-driven enterprise operations. “Salesforce knows the center of gravity is moving toward coding agents, conversational interfaces, agent harnesses, and external runtimes,” said Dion Hinchcliffe, VP of the CIO practice.

Critics raise concerns about pricing transparency and vendor lock-in. “There is no mention of cost or the underlying licensing model for this ‘headless’ experience,” warned Scott Bickley, advisory fellow at Info-Tech Research Group. He cautioned that Salesforce’s integrated approach represents “the ultimate vendor lock-in architecture.”

The transformation reflects Salesforce’s response to AI threats that could displace traditional software. Custom AI agents on Slack have grown 300% since January, signaling market demand for agent-driven interfaces.
