OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services on Thursday, targeting investment banks and equity research teams with a product that automates research compilation, financial modeling, and pitchbook production.

The offering is built on GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI’s newest model, and is available only to eligible financial institutions. OpenAI developed the product alongside Morgan Stanley and Evercore, whose teams flagged reliable data access and high-quality document creation as the biggest daily friction points.

What It Does

The platform targets workflows that consume hours of analyst time: company research, valuation analysis, LBO modeling, buyer screening, earnings analysis, and pitchbook preparation. ChatGPT for Financial Services pulls from integrated data sources, builds models in firm-specific Excel templates, and generates PowerPoint decks in existing corporate formats.

Granular, line-item citations let analysts click any figure in an AI-generated document and trace it back to the original source, whether an earnings transcript, financial statement, or news item. OpenAI VP of Product Nick Turley described the goal plainly: “We’re effectively teaching ChatGPT to research like an analyst and back up its conclusions like an analyst as well.”

Data Partners and Integrations

Initial bundled data providers include Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase. These datasets are indexed and hosted on OpenAI infrastructure, eliminating the need for separate data contracts or connector configuration, according to the company.

For firms that maintain existing data subscriptions, OpenAI is building shared sign-in and entitlement integrations with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva, and Moody’s. The integrations are designed to let those providers recognize users through their ChatGPT credentials and automatically surface the data their firms already license. OpenAI said its broader ecosystem includes more than 50 connectors, covering providers such as Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet, and Intapp.

The Data Agent

The product ships with a companion Data Agent for ChatGPT Work. Employees ask business questions in plain language rather than writing database queries. The agent processes follow-up questions and can produce interactive dashboards that teams can edit, share, and refresh without additional technical setup.

Security and Compliance

ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on the security architecture of ChatGPT Enterprise, including SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, and role-based access controls. Client and business data is not used to train OpenAI models by default. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Firms can create separate workspaces to enforce information barriers between teams. Compliance teams can export workspace logs through the OpenAI Compliance Platform into existing audit workflows.

Ambitions and Scope

Turley said OpenAI views this as the canonical product for the industry. “This is the canonical product we are hoping the industry adopts,” he said, describing a target of becoming the single platform large banks with tens of thousands of employees rely on.

Morgan Stanley framed the collaboration around client work: “We’re working alongside OpenAI to bring that intelligence into how we research companies, develop analysis, and prepare advice.”

OpenAI said GPT-6 Astra leads on three capabilities it considers critical for financial work: information retrieval, financial reasoning, and artifact generation. The company confirmed the financial services product will automatically incorporate future model generations as they are released. The initial rollout is limited to eligible institutions, with expansion into additional financial services categories planned based on feedback from design partners.
