Quick Facts

  • 43% of enterprises in a September 2026 VentureBeat survey use OpenAI's agent platform, compared to 22% for Anthropic's and 21% for Google's.
  • 69% of OpenAI's agent platform users name it their primary orchestration tool, versus 38% for Anthropic's users.
  • Anthropic leads OpenAI in actual corporate payments, with 43.8% of Ramp-tracked businesses transacting with Anthropic versus 39.8% for OpenAI as of September 2026.

OpenAI's agent orchestration platform is deployed at twice as many companies as Anthropic's, according to VentureBeat Intelligence's September 2026 survey on agent orchestration. The survey covered 107 companies that use at least one agent-orchestration platform, and respondents could name multiple vendors.

Among that group, 43% said they use OpenAI's Agents SDK or Responses API. Anthropic's Claude Agent SDK and Managed Agents came in at 22%, and Google's Enterprise Agent Platform at 21%.

Stickiness Gap

The adoption gap widens when companies name their primary platform. VentureBeat found that 52 of the 75 companies using OpenAI's platform, or 69%, name it their primary orchestration tool. Only 17 of Anthropic's 45 users, or 38%, say the same.

When respondents were asked which platform is primary across all companies surveyed, 25% named OpenAI's, 18% named Google's, and 16% named Anthropic's. The remainder cited Salesforce Agentforce, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Amazon Bedrock, and open-source frameworks such as LangChain.

The Spending Paradox

Corporate payment data tells a different story. Ramp's September 2026 AI Index, drawn from card and invoice transactions across more than 50,000 U.S. businesses, shows 43.8% of companies in the Ramp dataset transacting with Anthropic versus 39.8% for OpenAI. Ramp first recorded Anthropic ahead in May 2026, when it posted 34.4% business adoption against OpenAI's 32.3%.

More recent Ramp data from August 20, 2026 shows OpenAI growing faster than Anthropic among U.S. businesses, the first signs of a reversal since Anthropic took the lead three months earlier. The two datasets measure different things: VentureBeat surveys which platforms enterprises build on, while Ramp counts which vendors businesses pay for subscriptions or tokens.

Anthropic's Pipeline Advantage

Anthropic may close the adoption gap. Of the 61 companies in the survey considering a new, additional, or replacement agent platform within 12 months, 33% named Anthropic's, compared to 30% for OpenAI's and 25% for Google's.

Sixty percent of companies considering Anthropic's platform do not currently use it, pointing to a large pool of potential new customers. Anthropic had 36 prospective adopters against 45 current users, the strongest consideration-to-user ratio among platforms with at least 40 current users.

What Drives Platform Decisions

Among enterprises using a listed agent platform, only 2% said alignment with a leading AI model most influenced their choice. Flexibility across models and tools, production reliability, ease of development, and control over agent execution together drove 78% of platform decisions.

The data also shows that most enterprises are not locking into a single vendor. The VentureBeat survey found that 85% of enterprises use two or more orchestration tools, and 64% use three or more. Only 15% run a single orchestration platform.

Cloud and Model Infrastructure

A separate September 2026 VentureBeat survey on AI infrastructure found that 51% of respondents use Google Cloud to run AI in production, followed by Microsoft Azure at 36% and Amazon Web Services at 23%. For AI models, 41% use OpenAI's, 39% use Google Gemini, and 15% use Anthropic's.

When respondents named their main production provider, 32% named Google Cloud or Gemini and 22% named OpenAI. Just 6% named Anthropic as their primary model provider, a sharp contrast to Anthropic's strong showing in agent platform consideration and corporate spending data.
