- North.cloud CEO Matt Biringer told Axios Pro the company may raise a Series C next summer, potentially at a $1 billion valuation.
North.cloud, a financial operating system for cloud, AI, and data spending, closed a $60 million Series B on October 15. PeakSpan Capital led the round.
The company launched in late 2023 and previously raised a $5 million Series A from Companyon Ventures. This round is its largest to date and sits in the 92nd percentile of all U.S. enterprise software Series B deals on record, according to the company.
What North Builds
North.cloud gives finance and engineering teams a single platform to automate spending across Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Snowflake. The platform covers spend intelligence, commitment purchasing, and AI model cost attribution without requiring manual intervention from internal teams.
Two months before the funding announcement, North launched v3, which added Microsoft Azure support and completed coverage across all three major cloud providers. The release also added native integrations with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Snowflake.
North v3 introduced two core products. Autobot is an autonomous commitment management engine that uses machine learning to purchase and adjust cloud commitments based on observed usage, not manual estimates. TokenFlow, currently in early beta, governs AI token usage, spend, budgeting, and model health across providers.
Customer Results
North.cloud reports a 98.8% customer retention rate. Customers include AssemblyAI, Tines, Atlan, SnapLogic, Emplifi, and Imply.
Ben Gotthold, Head of Inference at AssemblyAI, said his team has maintained an effective savings rate of roughly 50% despite significant infrastructure growth over the past year. Gotthold said, "Since partnering with them I haven't had to think about managing cloud savings. Coverage has grown automatically allowing my team to focus on building for our customers instead of our cloud bill."
Investor Thesis
Yaseen Abdulridha of PeakSpan Capital framed the opportunity around the expanding scope of technology spending. "That surface area was once limited to cloud spend and it has now expanded dramatically to cover the AI and data platforms every modern business runs on," he said.
Abdulridha added that the winner in this market "will not stop at visibility" and will "agentically own the entire lifecycle of spend." PeakSpan believes North is already executing on that model.
CEO View
CEO and co-founder Matt Biringer, who previously led enterprise sales at Pure Storage, positioned the company against traditional FinOps approaches. "The rest of the market still treats optimization as an engineering problem," Biringer said. "We think that's the wrong bet: it's a business problem and it deserves a real fintech platform built on automation and AI."
Biringer also tied cloud efficiency directly to product quality in the AI era. "There's a direct line between how efficiently you invest in technology and how smart your product actually is," he said.
Use of Funds
North.cloud will use the capital to expand optimization across cloud providers, deepen integrations, accelerate AI spend management capabilities, and grow its engineering, product, and go-to-market teams. Co-founder and CTO Yassine Acoine leads the technical build-out alongside Biringer.
The company is building toward a potential Series C raise next summer at a target valuation of $1 billion, according to Biringer.
