Mistral AI released Workflows in public preview, a production-grade orchestration layer designed to move enterprise AI systems beyond proofs of concept into revenue-generating business processes.
The Paris-based company valued at $13.8 billion built Workflows on Temporal’s durable execution engine. Temporal, valued at $5 billion, provides the foundational infrastructure for reliable, long-running AI processes.
“What we’re seeing today is that organizations are struggling to go beyond isolated proofs of concept,” Elisa Salamanca, who leads go-to-market for Mistral’s enterprise products, told VentureBeat.
Mistral extended Temporal’s core engine with AI-specific features including streaming, payload handling, multi-tenancy, and observability. The platform provides automatic durability, retries, and state management that restart workflows where they stopped after failures.
Enterprise customers already using Workflows include semiconductor equipment maker ASML for predictive maintenance and diagnostics, shipping group CMA-CGM for automated claims handling, and Mars Petcare for faster medical data analysis supporting veterinary decisions.
Revenue Growth Drives Enterprise Focus
The launch reflects Mistral’s strategic pivot from pure model development to comprehensive enterprise AI platform. The company’s revenue increased 25-fold within a year to over $400 million annually, with CEO Arthur Mensch targeting $1 billion by year-end.
Enterprise adoption drives approximately 60% of Mistral’s revenue from Europe. The company raised €1.7 billion in September 2025 at an €11.7 billion valuation, with ASML leading a €1.3 billion investment.
Workflows targets the broader agentic AI market valued at $10.9 billion in 2026 and projected to reach $199 billion by 2034. However, industry research indicates over 40% of agentic AI projects will be abandoned by 2027 due to high costs and complexity.
Technical Architecture and Competition
The platform’s split control-plane and data-plane architecture allows regulated industry customers to run execution workers in their own environments while benefiting from managed orchestration. This addresses data sovereignty concerns for organizations hesitant to route sensitive data through U.S.-based cloud providers.
Workflows compete directly with hyperscale cloud providers and other AI platforms by offering vertical integration between orchestration and AI components. Organizations write workflows in Python code, then publish them to Le Chat, Mistral’s chatbot platform, for company-wide access.
