Quick Facts
- Fin Operator manages knowledge bases and analytics for Intercom’s customer-facing AI agent
- Intercom rebranded to Fin as AI agent drives 25% of company’s $400M annual revenue
- New usage-based pricing model breaks from traditional conversation-based billing
Intercom launched Fin Operator, an AI agent designed to manage its customer-facing AI agent Fin. The system handles back-office tasks for support operations teams who configure and monitor the company’s primary AI customer service tool.
Fin Operator performs two core functions. As a data analyst, it answers questions like “How did my team perform last week?” and generates charts and trend reports. As a knowledge manager, it ingests product updates and autonomously searches content libraries to identify what needs updating, finding gaps and drafting new articles.
“Fin is an agent for your customers,” Brian Donohue, VP of Product, told VentureBeat. “Operator is an agent for your support ops team.”
The announcement comes two days after CEO Eoghan McCabe renamed the 15-year-old company from Intercom to Fin. The rebrand signals that the AI agent now drives the business rather than supporting it.
Fin crossed $100 million in annual recurring revenue and grows at 3.5 times the rate of the broader company. The AI agent accounts for roughly 25% of Fin’s total $400 million ARR and virtually all growth.
The system resolves more than two million customer issues weekly across 8,000 customers including Anthropic, DoorDash, and Mercury. Fin reports a 67% resolution rate and over 40 million resolved conversations in the last 30 days.
Fin Operator enters early access for Pro-tier users today, with general availability planned for summer 2026. The company introduces usage-based billing alongside its traditional outcome-based pricing model.
Anthropic achieved a 50.8% resolution rate within one month of deployment, saving over 1,700 support hours. Clay sees Fin participate in 90% of conversations and resolve up to 50% autonomously.
McCabe said the company will invest $94 million in AI development and expand its Dublin machine learning team from 19 to 72 employees. The investment aims to transform Fin from a customer service agent into a unified customer agent handling the entire customer experience.
“Fin is clearly our future, and the future of this new customer agent category,” McCabe said. “It’s driving our renaissance and is about to be the largest part of our business.”
