  • Axiom raised $200 million Series A led by Menlo Ventures, reaching $1.6 billion valuation
  • The startup trains AI systems to generate formally verified outputs in Lean programming language
  • Axiom scored perfect 12/12 on Putnam Competition, the hardest undergraduate math exam in the world

Axiom Quant Inc. closed a $200 million Series A funding round led by Menlo Ventures, pushing the verifiable AI startup’s valuation to $1.6 billion. The round follows a $64 million seed funding in October led by B Capital.

The Stanford-founded company eliminates AI hallucinations by training systems to generate formally verified outputs in Lean, a specialized programming language for mathematical proofs. This approach provides mathematical certainty that AI-generated code functions correctly and contains no hidden vulnerabilities.

Axiom was founded by 25-year-old Stanford Ph.D. student Carina Hong, who serves as CEO. The company recruited Ken Ono, former Vice Provost at University of Virginia and recipient of a Presidential Early Career Award, as Founding Mathematician.

The startup demonstrated its capabilities in December 2025 by scoring a perfect 12/12 on the Putnam Competition, the hardest undergraduate math exam in the world. Only six perfect scores have occurred in the competition’s 98-year history. The median human score is zero.

The same AI system automatically proved a 20-year-old open number theory conjecture that even Ono could not solve. These achievements occurred within seven months of the company’s inception.

“We’re betting that Verified AI is a new paradigm, not an incremental improvement,” Menlo Ventures partners said. “Proving code is both correct and safe will become as essential as generating it.”

Unlike traditional AI that generates statistically likely outputs, Axiom’s systems produce machine-checkable results verified through mathematical proofs. Each reasoning step undergoes logical verification, transforming code generation from probabilistic guesswork into mathematically guaranteed accuracy.

The company targets quantitative trading firms, software verification for critical systems, and legal reasoning applications. Elite quantitative funds face constraints finding personnel capable of advanced mathematical reasoning required for alpha discovery.

Axiom operates a B2B SaaS model with expansion plans into enterprise R&D through formal proof APIs for quantitative finance, semiconductor verification, and cryptography. The company has raised more than $264 million total despite generating no revenue.

The addressable market extends beyond traditional formal verification, which historically required Ph.D.-level expertise and 20 lines of proof per line of code. Axiom automates this process, potentially creating a market for verifying every line of consequential AI-generated code.

The startup has grown to over 30 employees with expertise spanning AI, mathematics, and code generation. The company’s verified data flywheel generates orders of magnitude more formally verified data than all previous human-produced sources combined.
