SAP Acquires Reltio to Strengthen AI Agent Data Capabilities

Quick Facts

  • SAP agreed to acquire master data management software provider Reltio for undisclosed terms
  • The deal strengthens SAP Business Data Cloud and enables unified data access for AI agents across SAP and non-SAP systems
  • Transaction expected to close in Q2 or Q3 2026, subject to regulatory approvals

SAP SE announced it will acquire Reltio Inc., a master data management software provider, to help customers prepare their enterprise data for AI agents. The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal.

The acquisition targets a core challenge in enterprise AI deployment: fragmented data across multiple systems. Reltio’s platform uses AI-based entity resolution to identify and merge related records from different applications into unified “golden record” systems.

“Artificial intelligence cannot reach its full potential when data is distributed across business units, platforms, and domains, disconnected from each other or lacking the necessary context,” said Muhammad Alam, member of SAP’s Executive Board for Product & Engineering.

The deal strengthens SAP Business Data Cloud, which forms a key part of the company’s AI-First and Suite-First strategy. Reltio will become a core capability within SAP BDC while remaining available as a standalone offering.

Reltio’s technology will enable SAP’s Joule AI agents to access trusted, high-quality data from both SAP and non-SAP sources. This supports real-time workflows such as procurement agents that automatically assess supplier risks.

Founded in 2011, Reltio employs 637 people and has raised $237 million across six funding rounds. The Redwood City-based company serves customers including Pfizer, Radisson, and Warner Bros. It competes with Informatica MDM, Semarchy, and Profisee in the master data management market.

SAP stock fell 1.6% in premarket trading following the announcement. The shares have declined 37% over the past 12 months, closing Friday at €142.34. JPMorgan recently downgraded SAP to Neutral from Overweight, citing concerns about cloud backlog deceleration.

The transaction requires regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. SAP projects 2026 revenue growth of approximately 10%, reaching around €40.6 billion.

Tony Baer, principal analyst at dbInsight, said the acquisition extends SAP’s data integration capabilities beyond its existing Business Data Cloud platform. “While BDC was mainly about sharing SAP data externally, the Reltio move is about harmonizing data from non-SAP systems and sharing it with SAP,” he said.
