Google unveiled new AI agents at Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026 designed to bring telecommunications companies closer to fully autonomous network operations. The agents build on Google’s Autonomous Network Operations framework launched last year.
The new releases include a data steward agent that automates data governance for network digital twins and autonomous network agents that manage voice core networks and operational support systems. The Core Network VoLTE Agent monitors critical metrics like Call Setup Success Rates and Mean Opinion Scores in real time.
Google enhanced its network digital twin technology, evolving it from a static map into a dynamic temporal graph that captures real-time network performance and fault conditions. The company is releasing source code for its telco data pipeline and data models on GitHub to help communications service providers implement industry-standard ontologies.
Deutsche Telekom’s RAN Guardian Agent demonstrates the technology’s impact. The system autonomously triggered over 100 remediation actions during Christmas market events in its first month. It reduced the time needed to manage major events from hours to around one minute — a 95% improvement.
“Traditional network management approaches are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of 5G and beyond,” said Abdu Mudesir, Group CTO at Deutsche Telekom. “We are pioneering AI agents for networks, working with key partners like Google Cloud to unlock a new level of intelligence and automation.”
The agents identified 237,000 events in 2026 and detected around 130 Carnival events during Germany’s February season, each expected to draw over 10,000 participants. Far EasTone Telecom reports that nearly 60% of its network operations center activities are AI-assisted, executing about 10,500 operational tasks monthly.
Google is collaborating with One NZ to deploy the Core Network VoLTE agent, demonstrating progress beyond isolated AI use cases toward scaled operations. “Our collaboration with One NZ to deploy the Core Network VoLTE agent is a testament to this progress,” said Muninder Sambi, VP and GM of Products at Google Distributed Cloud.
The AI in telecommunications market is projected to grow from $8.8 billion in 2026 to $203.3 billion by 2035, representing a 40.6% compound annual growth rate. Eighty-nine percent of telecom companies plan to increase AI budgets over the next 12 months, with 35% planning increases exceeding 10%.
MasOrange achieved a 25% reduction in customer-generated reports and boosted software delivery productivity by 75% using AI agents. “This lean approach, with the customer as our priority, is paving the way for full network autonomy,” said Miguel Santos Fernández, Chief Technology Officer at MasOrange.
